Be an Alert Dental Patient!

When our teeth are in trouble, the dentist seems like god to us. Even though this is true, there are emergencies like a severe toothache when you cannot visit your regular dentist when out of town.

So if ever you need to go to a new dentist, ensure that he washes his hands before and after wearing gloves. He must wear a mask on his face too, as this helps in reducing any kind of infection. In case you need anesthesia, check out if he is using disposable syringes for the same.

Teach your kids about this too and make them alert patients!

Don’t Let Your Teeth Suffer Due To Your Diet

You have heard about anorexia, in which a person (usually girls!) does excessive dieting in order to achieve that size zero. Did you know that it can affect your teeth too?

When you are dieting like crazy, you do not provide your body all the required nutrients such as vitamins, minerals, proteins and essential fatty acids. This leads to a deficiency in the body and your teeth become weaker in the process.

So all you diet freaks, watch out! There may come a time when you will lose your teeth along with some weight. Wake up before it is late and start eating healthy.

Don’t Neglect that Tooth Decay!

If you have cavities in any tooth, the ‘wait and watch’ approach is surely going to harm you.

This is because once your teeth start decaying they can worsen if you don’t treat them in time. A decayed tooth can lead to several other problems such as inability to chew properly and toothache too. The caries can spread to other teeth and affect them as well.

I have seen people who love nuts but cannot eat them as their teeth are weak. The funny part is that they will STILL not visit the dentist waiting for all their teeth to fall off!

Don’t be one of them!

How to Snack For a Good Oral Health

Though chips are very tasty and tempting they are not good for our teeth. They are low on fiber and not easy to digest too. Here are some healthy snacks that you can indulge in without worry.

Crunchy veggies such as carrots make yummy snack sticks if eaten with a dip of your choice. Apples have a rough texture that polishes your teeth even while you are enjoying it. They also contain mild acid that gets rid of bacteria in your mouth.

If you know of any such healthy snacking options, do get back to me. Till then, happy snacking!

Control Your Sweet Tooth for Good

If you love sweets and desserts, this one is for you. We always thought that sweets are bad for your teeth. Of course they are! But if you eat a bar of chocolate ALL at one go, it will damage your teeth lesser than if you keep on snacking on it every half an hour.

This is because the number of times you expose your teeth to sugar is more important than how much sugar your teeth are exposed to. The more often you eat, you are preventing saliva to clean up the mouth and do its function well.

So eat a chocolate all at once next time!

Don’t get those cavities again

You have just had your cavities filled up from a dentist and now you think you have healthy teeth, right? Wrong!

When you have completed a dental treatment, you need to be very careful after that too. Regular brushing and flossing, if not done, can form cavities again and lead to infections. These healthy brushing habits should be inculcated in kids as well to save their deciduous teeth.

Along with this, a follow-up routine has to be adhered to so that tooth decay in some other part of your mouth is arrested in time. Regularity in oral hygiene goes a long way for sure.

Don’t Haste While Brushing

Brushing my teeth in the morning when I wake up is more of a chore than an interesting activity! I know I have many friends like you who share the same experience.

I recently read somewhere that you need to brush your teeth for at least three to four minutes each time. I was taken aback as I did not dedicate that much time for brushing in my life. I thought I must share this with you all and let you know that if you want clean teeth, you have to spend that much time at least.

Now don’t rush to brush!
