Are You Bottle-Feeding Your Baby?

Bottle-fed babies are more prone to caries according to dentists. When a baby holds on to drink milk from a bottle his teeth are covered in sugar for a long time, for as long as ten hours too. This is strongly not advisable as it can lead to early caries in babies.
In fact, even breast-fed babies run the risk of caries when they feed at night. It is better to use a soft muslin cloth to clean your baby’s mouth after each feeding so as to keep his teeth in good shape…and free from decay!
So will you use that bottle now?
Control Your Sweet Tooth for Good

If you love sweets and desserts, this one is for you. We always thought that sweets are bad for your teeth. Of course they are! But if you eat a bar of chocolate ALL at one go, it will damage your teeth lesser than if you keep on snacking on it every half an hour.
This is because the number of times you expose your teeth to sugar is more important than how much sugar your teeth are exposed to. The more often you eat, you are preventing saliva to clean up the mouth and do its function well.
So eat a chocolate all at once next time!
Don’t get those cavities again

You have just had your cavities filled up from a dentist and now you think you have healthy teeth, right? Wrong!
When you have completed a dental treatment, you need to be very careful after that too. Regular brushing and flossing, if not done, can form cavities again and lead to infections. These healthy brushing habits should be inculcated in kids as well to save their deciduous teeth.
Along with this, a follow-up routine has to be adhered to so that tooth decay in some other part of your mouth is arrested in time. Regularity in oral hygiene goes a long way for sure.
What Do You Mean By An Electric Toothbrush?

The other day I was at my dentist’s office for routine check-up. He suggested that I buy an electric toothbrush for everyday use. I asked him why and here is what he said.
An electric toothbrush is effective in getting rid of 98 percent of plaque, which consists of stains. Moreover, if you use an antibacterial mouthwash it helps a lot. One thing that you must take care is not to brush too hard with an electric toothbrush as it might remove the surface enamel. This can further lead to staining since the interior dentine is exposed.
I have started using it, why don’t you try?
Are Your Teeth Suitable For Whitening?

There will be hardly anyone who does not want bright and white teeth. But are you sure your teeth can handle the whitening treatment?
If you have sensitive teeth or receding gums or faulty dental restorations it is advisable that you ask your dentist for his opinion. There are chances that he might advise you not to go for teeth whitening. This is because whitening might make your teeth more sensitive and weak. In case you cannot bear the strong smell of hydrogen peroxide, whitening is not for you.
So before taking any step for teeth whitening, consult your dentist!
What is Laser Whitening?

Laser whitening of the teeth is different from at-home whitening as it can be done only at the dentist’s office. It involves making use of the light energy to fasten the bleaching process by an expert, usually the doctor.
Laser whitening has an effect for quite some months but it all depends on what the person consumes in his daily diet. Intake of dark coffee, tea and red wine will lessen the whiteness fast. Moreover, smoking is the main cause for discoloration of teeth. Teeth whitening falls under cosmetic dentistry and is widely used by those in the glamour industry.
Have Whiter Teeth At Home!

Teeth whitening products tend to be costly and if you are getting the treatment done at your dentist’s office, it can be quite expensive.
So I found out that we can use hydrogen peroxide or baking soda or a combination of the two for whitening teeth at home! We all have baking soda for sure in our kitchen. All you need to do is take half a teaspoonful of this and make a paste with water. Rub on to your teeth and let it remain for about two minutes.
There you are! You will have brighter teeth at the cost of nothing!
The Dentist Is Not Your Enemy!

I have childhood memories of a dentist’s visit… and I must say those are far from pleasant! As a child, all of us have dreaded a dental treatment- some are scared even now!
If you are terrified to go and see the dentist, it might cause damage to your teeth in the long run. You can let your dentist know about this as he can arrange for some distraction for you. It can be music or television- anything that keeps your mind off the fear.
Remember, a dentist is your friend- it is fine to let him know your fright!
Save Yourself from Oral Cancer
Your dental health can be at risk if you smoke or don’t maintain good oral hygiene. Did you know that cancer of the mouth is the sixth most common cancer?
Lots of people are also not aware that an oral cancer examination can be carried out by a dentist during the regular check-up, if you ask for it. Like any other kind of cancer, oral cancer can be controlled if diagnosed in early stages. So the next time you have a dental appointment, make it a point to screen your mouth for oral cancer.
Prevention is better than cure, do you agree?
Don’t Haste While Brushing

Brushing my teeth in the morning when I wake up is more of a chore than an interesting activity! I know I have many friends like you who share the same experience.
I recently read somewhere that you need to brush your teeth for at least three to four minutes each time. I was taken aback as I did not dedicate that much time for brushing in my life. I thought I must share this with you all and let you know that if you want clean teeth, you have to spend that much time at least.
Now don’t rush to brush!
